RMPx for Mac - installing
=========================

RMPx comes as two plugins and a standalone app:

RMPx.component Audio Unit, for Logic, GarageBand, MainStage and others
RMPx.vst3 VST3, for Ableton Live, Cubase, Reaper, Bitwig and others
RMPx.app Standalone app, no DAW needed (optional)

They run on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs with macOS 11 or later.

RMPx isn't signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS blocks it until
you tell it the files are safe. That takes one Terminal command.

1. Copy the plugins
-------------------

In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Cmd-G) and paste:

  ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components

Copy RMPx.component into that folder. Then go to:

  ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3

and copy RMPx.vst3 into it. You only need the format your DAW uses.
Close your DAW first if it's open.

2. Unblock them
---------------

Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and paste this as
one line, then press Return:

  xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/RMPx.component ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/RMPx.vst3

Nothing is printed if it works. If you only copied one of the plugins,
Terminal says it can't find the other one; that's fine.

This removes the "downloaded from the internet" flag that macOS puts on
the files, which is what blocks them.

3. Rescan in your DAW
---------------------

Open your DAW. RMPx appears as an instrument from the manufacturer
Krakli.

- Logic or GarageBand: if RMPx doesn't appear, open Logic > Settings >
Plug-in Manager, select RMPx and click Reset & Rescan Selection.
- Other DAWs: rescan plug-ins in the DAW's plug-in settings.

The standalone app
------------------

Copy RMPx.app into your Applications folder, then unblock it in
Terminal:

  xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/RMPx.app

Or open it once, click Done when macOS refuses, then go to System
Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway.

Choose your audio and MIDI devices in the app's Options menu.

If it still won't load
----------------------

- macOS says the plugin "is damaged" or "can't be opened": run the
command in step 2 again, check that it ran on the copied files, then
  restart your DAW.

- Logic still doesn't list it: clear the Audio Unit cache in Terminal,
  then open Logic again:

    killall -9 AudioComponentRegistrar

To check the Audio Unit yourself, run:

    auval -v aumu Rmpx Krkl

It should end with "AU VALIDATION SUCCEEDED".

- On Apple Silicon, a plugin must carry at least a local signature. If
a copy lost it, add one again:

    codesign --force --deep -s - ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components/RMPx.component
    codesign --force --deep -s - ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3/RMPx.vst3
